Why this site is free-to-use

Village Walks is a zero-budget project that has neither sought external funding nor intends to do so. It is, and will continue to be, completely free to access online with no subscriptions, download charges or otherwise.

This is in no small measure due to the goodwill and generosity of individuals, local history groups and others who provide the written text for history trails featured on the site. For this we remain extremely grateful.

In order that ongoing costs of maintaining the site are met, we partner with a small number of reputable companies (primarily travel-related) whose products and services are advertised only on a simple commission basis - a pay by returns principle.

Finally, in order that we reach as many people as possible on the internet, we positively welcome any links to villagewalks.com from other websites (but not those containing offensive material of any kind)

If you require any further information, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us via email at ukvillagewalks@aol.com and we’ll endeavour to reply as soon as we possibly can. Thank you for visiting Village Walks - we sincerely hope you enjoy the site and check back soon.

Welcome to VillageWalks.com - a new online guide to history trails around villages and small towns in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Individual walks are kindly submitted by contributors and are free for use by visitors and locals alike. Their simple aim is to inform, enlighten and make the outing as fascinating as possible.

Tell Your Part of the Tale...

Every village is unique. Some boast a history with prehistoric origins, while others are relatively new having only developed during the industrial revolution. Some grew up along ancient highways and were patronised by kings and queens, while many have more modest agricultural origins.

But all offer an insight into the past providing you know where to look and what to look for. Begin to understand the way in which communities have developed over centuries and the immeasurable positive impact which historic buildings and sites have upon our lives becomes evident.
